Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sign up?
Give us a call or use the online calendar to make an appointment.

How do I pay?
You can pay by credit card on-line or over the phone. We accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express. If you would like to pay with cash or check you may before your session.

I can’t cook or I don’t like to cook. Will I be able to do this?
Yes! If you can read English and follow simple directions you CAN do this! Gourmet in a day is great for both the expert and the novice cook. If you enjoy cooking, it helps you add to your regular menus by filling in on those busy days when you just don’t have the time. If you don’t enjoy cooking, think of it as getting all your work done in just one short session. With all the planning and prep work completed you just have to choose what to serve. Think of it as a bunch of friends coming together to get something important done while having a great time.

What do I need to bring?
A sense of humor and a willingness to have fun. Really – we provide everything you need to store your food and heavy-duty bags to bring them home. You will want to wear comfortable clothes and shoes. We provide aprons, as well.

How long does it take?
An average of ten minutes per recipe or about two hours for a 12 meal package. It may take longer if you’re enjoying a conversation. On return visits, when you’re familiar with the kitchen it takes less time.

What if I can’t make my appointment?
Call 847-251-4476 as soon as you know, and we can reschedule. If you don’t have time to do the prep work, we can assemble your meals for you for an additional fee.

How many people do the entrees serve?
According to the new food pyramid guidelines, each menu item serves six portions. However, if your family has a robust appetite you’ll be safe thinking 4-5 people. For two people, it’s a lot of food.

Can I share a session with a friend?
Yes, as long as it’s just one. Please let us know two days before your appointment, and remember if a session is full, at some point during your assembly process you may need to work together at the same station or sit out until a prep table is open. We do limit the number of guests who bring a friend to a first come, first served basis.

Can I bring my children?
Due to health department regulations, children under the age of 13 cannot join you in a commercial kitchen. Besides, this is your chance to enjoy a little adult time.

There are only two of us. Can I split the meals in half so I have two dinners?
Absolutely. Please keep in mind some recipes are easier to split than others due to the type of food and recipe design. For these recipes you may want to cook the full recipe at home and then re-freeze the second half for a later date.

I’m having a party; can you help?
Of course! You have a couple of options:

  1. Have your party at Gourmet in a Day. Click here for more info.
  2. Order several of the same dinner to serve to your guests. This will enable you to have a low stress party, and your friends will love the food. Contact us for suggestions.

What about special dietary needs and allergy concerns?
The beautiful thing about our service is that you are in control of what ingredients go into your entrées. If you’re allergic to something or you just don’t like it – leave it out. All labels and ingredients are available for review in the store. Each month we try to offer as much variety as possible in hopes that you’ll be able to suit your needs.
